Have you ever noticed that it takes less time to tackle a project than it does to write on a list and then fret about it?
The other day, I needed to fill my bird feeders. I was not in the mood to do it and felt I didn't have time. So, I decided to time myself to see how long it took. Guess how long? Just three minutes. I didn't rush. From slippers off, shoes on and back to slippers again, I was done in three minutes.
Before sitting down to write this post, I just bribed myself to vacuum my stairs. If I did it, I could go online afterwards. I did and I didn't rush through it. I sat down and looked at the clock. It didn't take me more than five minutes. Really? I put it off for for more than 10.
Next time you have something to tackle, do it and time yourself. You will be surprised that sometimes the task is annoying but quick. My next task and boy am I dreading it, is our toys. OUT. OF. CONTROL. I have to take it all out of my family room, drop them off downstairs and then clean the toys in the basement. It all must be organized preferably withOUT children. This is task that cannot be timed because that would be depressing. Maybe I will share the process in order to make sure I finish. Not sure what bribe I will use for myself but something tells me IT MUST BE BIG!
What task do you put off? Do you bribe yourself? Let's hear what works for you.

I HATE Laundry and it is ALWAYS the never ending chore that haunts my dreams!! Seriously, I can spend all day, wash, dry, fold/hang up everyones clothes and you know what...at the end of the day when everyone is tucked quietly in bed...there it is - MORE DIRTY CLOTHES!! UGH!

Emptying the dishwasher was the one I always put off - then I realized it only takes 3 minutes - the time it takes to heat water in the microwave. Now I race the clock. Sometimes the kids even want to help to see if we can win.
oh gosh... my list is endless. obviously i have the wrong idea. this is an interesting concept, one i will totally try today.
Homework. Homework is the worst. And, you're right. Once I sit down to do it, I realize that I could have gotten it done HOURS ago! It's ridiculous. I have a problem.
You are so right! I hat eto empty the dishwasher it take too long at least that is what I think. Then one day I timed myself yeah a meer 2 1/2 minutes later I was done
That's a good idea!
And, yes, I bribe myself all the time.
I always get a big treat for doing medical bills. Unfortunately, it takes way longer than 3 minutes.
Whenever I am putting off household chores, I set the kitchen timer for 15 minutes. I get done as much as I can in that time and don't feel guilty about what didn't get done. Usually I am surprised about what a difference 15 minutes can make around the house.
